Internet

You can check your e-mail in cybercafes in most major cities. There are two facilities in Djenné.

Phone, fax & cell phone

It's quite expensive to make a phone call or send a fax from Djenné (approximately € 3,50 a minute), and the lines are often pretty bad. International phone calls can be made from booths that operate on cards that can be purchased at the booth. Cell phones do operate in Mali, but in rural areas there's no network. However, in the area of the Sandcastle there's a cell phone signal. Contact your service provider to find out if your particular phone will work.

Mali's country code is 00223; there are no city codes.

Mail

You can send mail from the post office in Djenné. It will take about 10 days for it to reach Europe. Mail sent from Europe to Mali can take up to a month to get delivered.

Electricity

The voltage in Mali is 220 volt, 50Hz. Please note that the Sandcastle has no electricity.

Campfires lit all over the sand dunes create an absolutely enchanting atmospere.
