The one-week djembé master class offers advanced percussionists or music teachers a great opportunity to take their skills to a higher level.
You will be taught by djembéfola, literally: the one who makes the djembé speak. Djembéfola play an important social role in Malian villages. They perform at circumcisions, weddings, funerals and harvest fests.
You must bring your own djembé to the workshop. We'll also visit a djembé maker to see how he creates the instrument out of one piece of a tree. In Mali, djembés made out of more than just one chunk of wood are not considered spirited.
Last but not least you might even be able to participate in the creation of your own djembé!
According to Malian tradition a djembé is exclusively manufactured for one particular drummer.
